You will have the chance to take a walk amidst olive and almond trees, archaeological excavations and findings, and marvel at the ruins of as many as ten temples dating back to the 5th century B.C. The most important are certainly the Temple of Juno and the Temple of Concordia, one of the best preserved in the entire Magna Graecia.

The Valley of the Temples was built in the ancient settlement known as Akragas, founded around 580 B.C. Its splendor peaked in the 5th century B.C, before the decline triggered by the war against the Carthaginians. During the Punic wars, Akragas was conquered by the Romans, and its name turned into the Latin version tum.Agrigen

It subsequently fell under the Arab domination, who called it Kerkent, and in 1089 surrendered to the Normans, taking on the name of Girgenti and keeping it until 16th June 1927, when a royal decree decided that is be called Agrigento.

You will have time for a short refreshment before we proceed to Piazza Armerina, an ancient medieval village with a remarkable Baroque and Norman old town. Its municipality includes the Villa Romana del Casale (entrance fees not included); a UNESCO heritage site since 1997, the villa is decorated with magnificent, worldwide-known mosaics that today attract thousands of visitors with a passion for history and art.
